1. How will I know if I need a clicker? Ideally, faculty will notify the SDSU Bookstore and it will be included in your required materials list.

2. Why do I need a clicker? A classroom response device, or clicker, is often used for in-class participation, attendance, voting, and quizzes. Many faculty give points not only for correct answers, but also on your in-class participation.

3. Where do I get my clicker? iClicker2 and Reef activation codes can be purchased from the SDSU BookStore at a reduce rate. The CSU system as a whole has negotiated lower pricing.

4. How many clickers do I need? You only need one clicker. Your clicker registration will be good for one year for every class that is using them. Due to the large number of clickers registered to multiple students, we will delete all iClicker registrations before Fall semester begins.

5. How do I register my clicker? You need to register your iClicker remote on any of your Blackboard Courses. It will carry over into all of your courses. Here are the steps:

In addition, we have created a short demonstration video to show the steps. Your instructor may have created a button on your menu to get you straight to the registration page. Note that after you register, it shows your clicker ID and the registration date.

Please do not register on the iClicker site!

6. How do I use my clicker? iClicker was chosen because it is easy to use. While polling is open, you can continue to change your vote as many times as you want. The remote will display a checkmark when your answer has been successfully received. Once polling is closed, you can no longer change or submit a response. There are also directions on the back of the remote. For additional information, please see the Student Quick Start Guide.

7. Why don't I see my clicker scores in MyGrades? Clicker scores don't automatically feed into the Grade Center. It's a manual process that your professor completes when ready. Many professors upload clicker scores periodically instead of immediately. If you are concerned, ask your professor.

8. What's the difference between iClicker1 and iClicker2? The iClicker1 remote can only handle multiple choice questions. In addition, you cannot change the frequency on iClicker1. However, iClicker1 can be used in most courses.

9. What does "No Base" mean? No Base means you are most likely on the wrong frequency. Most faculty are using "AA" as the default. You may need to ask your instructor.

To change frequency, press the orange button until your screen blinks. Press the correct frequency (AA or DA or whatever). When you see the checkmark, the frequency has been changed and connected to the base receiver. Your instructor must have the iClicker software running so that the base receiver and your remote can communicate.

10. What is "Reef?" You can use your smartphone or a web-enabled device IF your instructor has decided to enable this service. More information can be found on the corporate Reef site.
