I'm in a class
which uses clickers. What should I do?
- Buy a clicker in the bookstore, if you haven't
already. (A
clicker should show up on the class materials list if an instructor
requires you to use a clicker.) Please see this
handout for more information on your bookstore purchasing
options. When you purchase your clicker, you will also receive a slip
of paper with an enrollment/registration code. Be sure to keep this
safe!
- Find out from your instructor whether the clicker is
to be
registered for class through Blackboard or CPSOnline. Follow the
appropriate set of directions below (Blackboard
or CPSOnline) to register
your clicker.
- Bring your clicker to class and be ready to use it!
- Batteries are supposed to last at least a year, but
do make
sure to change them when the battery meter indicates that they are low.
Topics within this page:
How do I
register my
clicker through Blackboard?
Note: Follow this process ONLY
if your instructor told you to register through Blackboard.
If you are unsure, check with your instructor first.
- Log on to your Blackboard
account.
- Enter the course in which you will be using your
clicker.
- Find and click the CPS Connection button. This may
be a
main button on the left, or you may first need to click the Tools
button to find it.
- Click Register Clicker OR Update your serial number.
- Enter your keypad serial number in the space
provided. You
can find your serial number on your LCD screen when you turn on your
clicker (press and hold the power button when the clicker is off in
order to keep your serial number on the screen).
- CRITICAL: Unless you
already have a CPSOnline username and password, enter the
enrollment/registration code you got packaged with your clicker. If
you do not enter this code, you may be asked to pay additional fees,
UNLESS you have already registered your clicker for another class, in
which case you do not need to re-enter this code (and doing so will
probably result in an error message that the code is already in use).
- Read the student refund policy, and check the box
indicating that you have done so.
- If you already have a CPSOnline Username and Password
(because you already registered your clicker in a different class),
enter it in the space provided. If you’ve never registered
your clicker before, create a CPSOnline Username and Password. Click
Submit.
- On the next screen, you will see a message about
needing to
continue to register your clicker for the class. Click Continue to
Register Pad For This Class.
- You may see a couple of messages and have to click
buttons
a couple of times. (If you are asked to pay more, DO NOT! Go back to
step 6 and be sure to enter this registration code.) The last message
you see regarding your pad number may be useful to you in class,
depending on how your instructor runs the clicker sessions. It's a good
idea to keep track of it for now.
- If at the end of the process you get a "Bad Request"
error
message, you may safely ignore it. You are done!
How do I
register my
clicker through CPSOnline?
Note: Follow this process ONLY
if your instructor told you to register through CPSOnline.
If you are unsure, check with your instructor first.
- Go to www.einstruction.com.
- Click on the Students link at the top left of the
window.
- Select "San Diego State University" from the
drop-down
menu.
- Click Choose Site.
If you already have a CPSOnline account (because you
already
have registered your clicker for another class, either through
Blackboard or CPSOnline), under Have you used CPSOnline
before? click the link to sign in. After entering your
CPS username and password, click the Sign In button. On the next
screen, click the Enroll in a Class link from the middle of the bottom
row of links. To continue, skip down to the instructions to Enroll in a Class.
Otherwise, you first need to create a CPSOnline account.
Creating a CPSOnline Account
(only do this if you have never registered your clicker for another
class)
- Under Are you new to CPSOnline?,
enter your serial number in the space provided. You can find your
serial number on your LCD screen when you turn on your clicker (press
and hold the power button when the clicker is off in order to keep your
serial number on the screen).
- Click Create Your Account.
- Create a CPSOnline Username and Password, fill in
your
contact information, and confirm the serial number for your clicker.
Click Submit to create your account.
- You’ve now created a CPSOnline account. You
can
use your CPSOnline username and password to login anytime to CPSOnline.
Now you can enroll your pad in your first class - do so by clicking the
Yes button to enroll immediately in a class.
Enroll
in a Class
- Enter your Class Key in the space provided. Your
instructor
should have given this to you. If you are unsure about this, contact
your instructor.
- Make sure that your clicker serial number is correct
(press
and hold the power button when the clicker is off in order to keep your
serial number on the screen).
- Enter your SDSU Red ID in the Student ID box.
- CRITICAL: If this is the
first
class in which you are registering a clicker, enter your
enrollment/registration code in the Code box. This code should have
come with your clicker when you bought it in the bookstore. If
you do not enter this code, you may be asked to pay additional fees,
UNLESS you have already registered your clicker for another class, in
which case you do not need to re-enter this code (and doing so will
probably result in an error message that the code is already in use).
- Click Next.
- Once you have finished enrolling in all of your
classes,
click Log Out to ensure that CPSOnline properly records your
information. You are done!
NOTE: If you enroll in more than one class using CPS,
your
response pad may have a different assigned number for each class. Note
your assigned response pad number after you enroll for each class, and
use the reminder emails from eInstruction to keep track of your
information.
